Dangerous myths about contraception
Being a modern woman you certainly apply to a doctor for a consultation concerning contraception. Why do you do that and why do you think it is not enough to consult a friend in order to get information on modern methods of contraception? Because doctor has professional knowledge but not only life experience. And he will not tell you foolish things many people believe in. Surprisingly modern people sometimes seem to be as ignorant as those of the 19th century who believed that a pregnant woman in labour should put a knife under her bed in order to cut pain. So let us discuss the most spread myths about contraception and see in what extend they are true.
Myth 1 (the most popular and insidious one) I cannot get pregnant while being a nursing mother
It is thought that if the possibility of conception is decreased, you do not have to use any methods of contraception at all. It is a mistake! Actually conseption is impossible for some period after delivery. Hormones responsible for milk weaken the ovariess functioning. But they do not stop it completely. A woman becomes able to get pregnant after ovulation. It can happen in a month after childbirth as well as in a year. Moreover, women usually do not have menstruations while breastfeeding. It means that you are likely not to notice pregnancy. You can think that your breast is enlarged because of breastfeeding and such symptoms as sickness and weakness are the result of not getting enough sleep. You do not even suppose that you are pregnant.
Tips
Begin using some methods of contraception as soon as possible after childbirth
Most doctors recommend women not to get pregnant again earlier than in a month after giving birth.
Myth 2 (the most unhygienic one) I cannot get pregnant having sex during menstruation
