Spermicidal Lubricant: Does It Work?
I am surprised to know that today there are a great number of people who have no idea what the spermicide is and when and how it should be applied.
Though it is one of the most famous methods of birth control, many users have some doubts about its effectiveness.
In reality the spermicide should be applied correctly, in this case the risk of the unwanted pregnancy will be approximately 20% if used alone.
Some spermicides come like creams, foams or lubricants.
Spermicidal lubricant is a lubricant that delivers the smooth glide and pleasant sensations during the intercourse, as well as provides the extra protection from the pregnancy.
The formula of all spermicidal lubes contains the special ingredient - spermicide, a chemical that kills or immobilizes sperm, when it occurs in the vagina. Sperm can not move, therefore a spermatozoon will be unable to reach its object.
- Lubricant will give your genitalia the additional lubrication and will help to make sex more pleasurable experience.
If the lubricant contains a spermicidal agent, you will be more relaxed knowing that you and your partner are protected.
- Apply the recommended amount of the lubricant prior to the intercourse approximately 3 inches deep inside and on the clit and labia before any genital contact.
Usually you should not wait some period of time, since the spermicide works immediately after application.
NOTE: It is important to use the spermicidal lubricant correctly: a certain amount of the liquid for one intercourse and for a certain period of time before the contact. Some liquids loose their properties after 15-20 minutes, if no intercourse took place. Read thoroughly the instructions before the use, since not all lubes are the same.
Some physicians recommend using several methods of contraception: for example, condoms with spermicidal lubricants. But it is important to check if condoms are compatible with the lube.
ATTENTION! If you use latex condoms never cover them with oil-based lube, since it may lead to breakage.
But, of course, some condoms may break or leak during the intercourse, in this case the spermicide will kill the released sperm.
Some kinds of condoms come with spermicidal lubricants, such as Trojan ENG, Trojan Ultra Pleasure and some other brands.
Reverse of the coin
Spermicidal lubricants may cause bad reactions in some individuals, including allergies, irritation, discomfort, burning sensation, etc.
If it happens, you should stop the application and try the lubricant with no spermicide agent, but think about the other methods of contraception.
!!!Spermicidal agent does not protect you and your partner against the sexually transmitted diseases.
So, you may think that if it kills the sperm, it will kill the infections, but it is not true unfortunately.
Spermicidal lubricants do NOT give the protection from STDs, including HIV, chlamydia, etc.
So, use spermicidal lubricant, if you have the permanent partner and you are sure that you are both healthy.
